The Kids Next door It’s all about community and how we connect to each other. In my studio area, there are many other studios, artists, people working, crafters, woodworkers, small business, and sometimes families. now that i’ve been there a while, i’ve noticed children laughing, playing, all colors mixing, interactions with each other. (my work is mainly focus on color and pattern interactions) so i decided to make the environment look more like them, and reflect the energy that they were giving to the space. i started by painting 34 wheat pastes of kids on swings based on RGB color palette, and interactions. The installations of all of them took me 2 nights. then i thought, all of them by the end of summer will be gone. let’s do a witness of this project to keep in mind this intention. so i did two paintings that were reflecting this idea but also could interact with people with the light. wheatpaste installation Acrylic painting on paper, Kiryat Hamelacha 2018, Tel Aviv, Israel

  • Alone Together | Jessica Moritz | geometric abstract sculpture | Hard Edge Artist | Tel Aviv

Alone TOgether How to catch a moment and turn it into a shape, an installation. Intentions takes a lot of room in this project. Most of the time, intentions have more strength and details than the final piece. The Most precious things are the one you can’t keep or record. I was thinking of this full idea of capturing a moment. Intimacy and giving it exposure, and colors facing patterns. Pattern are like a short souvenir of yours. It comes in pieces, sometimes informations and usually randomly blurred lines. I intentionally took the cliché of a kiss. Kiss belongs to universal memory, languages and ages. According to the world we’re living in: kissing is casual, can be done by anyone, so it belongs to everyone. Medias made it easy to watch from public figures, neighbors, public cameras and of course POP culture. People make a lot of efforts to wether keep their personal space private or to pretend they invite you in. Intimacy is a luxury and an imposture. Alone Together Installation 100X100X12(cm) 39X39X4,5 '' MDF 4mm, acrylic 2019 Collect previous versions and exhibition view Alone Together Installation 100X100X12(cm) 39X39X4,5 '' MDF 4mm, acrylic 2019 installation view, תערוכה התחזות , collective show, gallery mercazit, Tel Aviv, curated by Doron Furman

Shaped canvas Sweetwater roundabout Once upon a time... every painting starts like this or maybe should. Sometimes I am nostalgic about colors, or format should I say. I always enjoyed Western movies. I need to be specific so that you can see the different dimensions it takes me to invite you. So a little about cinema history, spaghetti western, most of these movies were using the technicolor process. As an Abstract landscape, The painting is taking place in the west, you can hear a rolling hay, see a blinding light, and follow the movement around. Sweetwater Roundabout pigments and acrylic on canvas 140 X 144 X 6 2023 the island Sometimes, the vision of elsewhere can become a shape. Over the last few years, my paintings investigated different relations with shapes, space, colors, and socio-politics events. We all have experienced a shift during or after the pandemic, realizing that life holds on a string and that humanity can be disappointing. In that context, I wanted to paint an idea of relief where the balance between order and chaos would fit and remain. Stillness was on my mind while I started this Painting, therefore, I knew I would have to build the shape and that a regular canvas would flatten the idea. Between sculpture and painting, I found a compromise. Shapes always come first, and then I complete them by painting. shaped canvas 170 X 120 X 6 pigments, acrylic on canvas, MDF, and wood. 2023 Lightscape geometric abstract light exploration Painting As I often say, you need to accept the darkness if you want to see the light. The observation of light, from a physics perspective and from a spiritual point of view. About the rayleigh phenomenon, it was established that Blue is the shortest wave in the visible spectrum accessible to human perception and therefore the scattering would reflect and create the blues we know in the sky. The scattering of light off of the molecules of the air, and can be extended to scattering from particles up to about a tenth of the wavelength of the light. Wherever we are. There is a lot to say about light (natural) that as a visual artist can understand and change the use of colors and the perspective of painting. I built a shaped canvas by curving wood and upcycling some leftovers and I had to also buy some new pieces due to the scale of these pieces. Circles are important in my work and led me to many compositions and new discoveries. Closed shapes can be perceived as a limitation. But, Let's see it from another perspective. Let's say there is a dot, another, and another that you reunite with and create the line that drives you to the circle. I really enjoy details and prefer to see space as a reunion of circumstances and light selection, as if a lighthouse was always around. About symbolism and vision through that paintings, I layered different concepts and directions to get these paintings as a new direction in my work. pigments, acrylic painting reclaimed wood, found materials, wood, mdf canvas diameter 111 cm side of 5,7cm I started by compiling physics and physical aspects: the eye vision, the way we perceive its shape of it. from the shape of an eye to the conic perception of what we see. Especially nowadays, where we seek attention, familiar faces, image, and presence. The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, and the base of humanity. In Sacred Geometry, it stands as the symbol of life, the first step to building energy (flower of life, mandala...) We can also see them as the sun, the moon, and the earth and be more grounded and realize how small we are in this constellation. A shape with no end, and no beginning, just unity. Lately, I have tried my best to decompose each color, display their lightest shade, and evaluate proportions influences. Sometimes giving equal space and surface, creating an optical illusion by using a gradient, color theory, and isometric grid. Finally finding harmony between shapes and colors. Distance, proportion, symmetry, and execution of colors create a unique reflection that allows the viewer to accept the painting as an experience and to focus on what they see, linking it to their own relationship with light and space. We all have different perceptions and visualization. The way we all interact with light gives us (all) a singular experience, each time, over and over. Between a moment of stillness and movement, Jessica Moritz's work captures the essence and translates it into Paintings, sculptures, and installations. half spectrum The observation of light is a daily practice in my work. From physics to personal perception and appreciation, I try to explore a different point of view and translate each into a Painting. This time I have extended the experience on a bigger scale and also built a shaped canvas to enhance the color properties. The light and space's relation to a 2D object such as painting on a rectangular surface is interesting but often brings me back to a screen relation ( computer, phone, iPad) which has its limitation. By building the canvas, creating an odd shape, a reunion of circles, closer to the physical perception, the actual vision we have. As established by Newton, the visible light spectrum is the segment of the electromagnetic spectrum that the human eye can view. More simply, this range of wavelengths is called visible light. Typically, the human eye can detect wavelengths from 380 to 700 nanometers. I chose to exclude half of the range, meaning mainly the red. Red has such a strong impact on the human vision that even a small amount can cancel the perception of other colors and therefore the space too. the shape comes from the idea of multiplication of this half part of the spectrum as a twisted shape, originally coming from the conic vision that we all have. Half spectrum, geometric escape, shaped canvas 120 X 120 X 6 2023 Colors or shapes? Painting perspespective Painting is usually a compromise between colors and shapes. Fit a rectangular canvas, compose inside, and manage rhythm within. Nowadays, we are used to watching screens, relying on this rectangular perception of what there is to see. It doesn't always fit or translate as it should but this is the vision we are living in. Pattern as Figure, Installation view, 2018, Israel.

  • Pattern as Figure | Jessica Moritz | Geometric abstract painting | hard edge art

Pattern as figure As I was doing a mural painting I realized that what really matters was the confrontation of the pattern with space. We can have this conversation over and over but as the line was drawing different patterns, I faced the Simplicity and naked truth about it: useless As if all the other elements never mattered. Of course we can use multiple language or rhetoric about it but I feel it will not lead to some good piece or argue. So let’s skip that and let’s focus on what appears to be basic and necessary at the same time : the medium and its context. Yes I m still a painter, yes pattern is my “thing”, and then how to extend it to enlighten the pattern as figure? It was like looking at someone, you undress it, little by little, you give up on all useless accessories and then you see the beauty of it. First as a unique shape then as some pattern that you know you’ve seen before and that you ll see again, hopefully... Therefore I started drawing simple shapes, explored first the 2 dimensions relation and finally decided 3 dimensions were needed. I call it a body relation, the shape comes in your personal space and you can relate or feel familiar with it. I start to work as an exploration on 3 different patterns. Each of them have also a color “reaction”. As the pattern will coexist in the studio, or gallery, it has to explore this relation also. I try to not look at each as object but more as an extension of the line (space). Second installation of these sculptures. After making, them, watching them and trying to have a second look, i realized that it was not enough. the circles and the colors needed to extend to the space. i believe that wall is not just a support or a vertical relation to sculpture. it needs to be all over, and engaged with the wall. Pattern as Figure, Sculpture based on a circle of 38 cm and color reaction. Acrylic on MDF 2018 Collect

The paradox of the global situation is ironic and makes it even more fascinating. We are all, more or less, on limited movement and travelling. Creating some utopian landscape generated by these observations makes my journey easier. The escape is determined by the viewer. Observing the Hubble and seeing the Nebula, the stars and the moons is a relief. Isn’t is amazing to have this vision and see the light from here. We need darkness to see the light. On a spiritual side, moon is leading many calendars and opportunities that can bring you higher connections and relief. I think it’s common for all creatives having a process that involves questions, balance, arguments, answers and contradictions. So I started some drawings using letters, punctuation, as if the inner dialogue was taking shape. For this one, 23 pieces to fit together, a little mind puzzle, asymmetrical and colorful, there is no light if there is no shadow. Space Between prototype for multiple duplications, Space between (mdf and acrylic ) This volume is an intent to create an new to perceive volume or scupture in our creative field. We do build shapes and installation to make a point, But i believe we rarely think about the space as a simple use of it. The white cube has the same needs as we do, doesn't it? so let's imagine we could put some punctuation and rythm into all that. Learn More Space Between , digital art working by substraction and addition to demonstrate about the RGB color theory, 2018 Space Between, concrete, from the mold serie, acrylic 30X 20 X 5 2019 Space Between, installations with different space and color palette, plaster and acrylic 30X 20 X 5 2019 It's all about the narrative. adapting to Israeli culture takes time. interactions and habits create a new way of interacting. i wanted to give some rhythm within and bring some concrete punctuation to cope with this new lifestyle. i first draw different shapes of commas, analog drawing, then put it to hand scale, as if we could hold this comma between us, give us space, and give it to someone walking behind you too close. Plaster is such a pleasant material that can erase any kind of texture, and fade into any shapes. i want people to be conscious about their personal space and others. if you acknowledge this and what it implies, it becomes a relief. intangible situation and perspective are so precious and specific for each of us, that it gets nicer from each viewer or holder. 2024 oscillating between painting and sculpture. observation of light, mediums and translating new perspectives linked to chaos. Going back to a larger scale, gestural and minimal. Image Gallery In search of new shapes, expanding the tight vision of a square pushed me to new perspectives of what I thought was Painting. Of course, the building part weighs a lot, but it brings questions and a new approach that sculpture implies, and not painting. The idea of unnecessary background or one dimension layer is gone. As if paintings were emerging from walls, some unexpected mushrooms, proteiform apparitions between chaos. The balance between painting and sculpture becomes a blur zone where the eyes follow the movement of colors, wandering what started first and how to read it. Half spectrum, geometric escape, shaped canvas reclaimed wood, wood, MDF pigments and acrylic on canvas 120 X 120 X5 (cm) lightscape, geometric abstract light exploration shaped canvas reclaimed wood, wood, MDF pigments and acrylic on canvas diameter 111, edge 5 (cm) Lightscape is part of a new serie of painting, shaped canvas. As I often say, you need to accept the darkness if you want to see the light. About the rayleigh phenomenon, it was established that Blue is the shortest wave in the visible spectrum accessible to human perception and therefore the scattering would reflect and create the blues we know in the sky. I started by compiling physics and physical aspects: the eye vision, the way we perceive its shape of it. from the shape of an eye to the conic perception of what we see. A shape with no end, and no beginning, just unity. Read more Dimension, geometry of light Painting Dimension was first an idea that i developed in drawings and on paper with color pencils. sometimes you need to reduce the medium to see if the project is worth painting. in dark days, you need to find an escape, or more a mindscape where you can hold on and find harmony. All this serie is minimal in the concept to let colors stand for light and space. wether you look closer, you will see the gradients going from light to darkness and if you look from afar you will see the different shapes involved questioning the space you live in. It's necessary to have reminder to always question where we stand, what we see and how we see it. Nothing is never still or real. the perspective we have on present, future are biased and non objective. each and everyone of us need some kind of light to keep on. An incandescent light, to mind the light, mind the future and hold on. BLOB sculptural painting Blob is a serie of works exploring the relation of data and Art. The new era we live in has encouraged us to be more involved in virtual relations, content, and creating our own data, meaning creating our own narrative. Nevertheless, Blob happens. what is a blob? well, to make it short A blob is is a collection of binary data stored as a single entity. Blobs are typically images , audio or other multimedia objects, though sometimes binary executable code is stored as a blob. They can exist as persistent values inside some databases or version control system, or exist at runtime as program variables in some programming languages . It is not to be confused with a binary file stored in a file system . how fascinating it is to look into data as an abstract representation of us or a singular person? Candyshop Painting As you may have noticed in my last cycle of painting, i went deep into letters, from minimalism to maximalism. I work most of the time on a Grid, playing with latin and hebrew alphabet to combine and create unique expression that can be interpreted has a translation. Language, for many reasons have been inspiring me and encouraging to decompose and create new abstract or less representation in my work. the world we live in today has encouraged us to be more talkative and share anything/everything in different media and hope to reach someone. I cannot really relate to that since i blur the lines or mix the words, I prefer to think that everyone can have their own interpretation and translation. Letters, minimal geometric Painting letters, symbols, signs have a very strong influence in my painting. Little by Little i came to reduce the unnecessary "noise" around the expression of it. Creating forms from combining the glyphs and unite them in one. some will see a labyrinth, some will recognize Truchet, some will think of some letters than others. it's always in the viewer that a piece of Art takes its full dimension, isn't it? Letters minimal geometric, painting 156 X138 pigments, acrylic painting on canvas wall sculpture, relief plaster, pigments and acrylic on reclaimed wood 40,5 X 53 X 3,8 2022 Daedalus Painting always interesting to study mythology, history, and mathematics and realize that we are always here to learn a lesson. I started by Bauhaus drawings and teaching, on the way got lost with Truchet tiles and history, but of coursealso reading about Daedalus achivements and symbolic. Daedalus 2 Painting Usually in Labyrinth, you have at least one way in and on way out. The i relaized that all the attention would be focus on these. Therefore, i twisted the idea a little, and composed with Truchet Tiles a new idea. The journey is the key, not how you started or how you finished. Around the square painting 90 X90 X 4 pigments and acrylic on canvas Movement and restrictions have been two elements important in my practice. As previously, i came back to the concept of choreography in limited space. a reflection of shuffling and always coming back to the same point. Tessellation Dialogue wall sculpture most of the time, I trace a grid and compose, add layers, and understand where the rhythm should be. i wanted to use simple icon language and abstract hem to the point it would create a new eye gymnastic. sky escape, geometric utopia wall sculpture On my journey to escape the current chaos, I always look up. The various mysteries related to sky, space, light and how we see it and what we do with this knowledge. Mission to Mars, or moon explorer still resonate and are an infinite source of inspiration. The paradox of the global situation is ironic and makes it even more fascinating. We are all, more or less, on limited movement and travelling. Creating some utopian landscape generated by these observations makes my journey easier. sky escape, geometric utopia, golden hour wall sculpture The escape is determined by the viewer. Observing the Hubble and seeing the Nebula, the stars and the moons is a relief. Isn’t is amazing to have this vision and see the light from here. We need darkness to see the light. I translated this concept into a shape, a new mindscape to add to the collection. Mind the light. i did a serie of this shape reuniting different light studies, and observations, proposing a spectrum of moments and escape. Velvet lines Geometric escape wall sculpture in my process, i always combine colors, shapes and illusion. Sometimes I investigate on the typography and symbolism. In this work, i combined few symbols and letters, collected in the last cycle, as a new language to add to my painting vocabulary. it starts with writing and sketching, and slowly blurring the lines and evidences of clear lecture of the situation. many skies ago, geometric dystopia painting After two years of shuffling inside and out, physically and mentally, this shape became my symbol. As if every time I was looking up and wondering for some enlightenment to explain the situation. the many restrictions that surround us during this era allowed me to think of colors as a mindscape, a little parenthesis, a dystopian universe that makes me feel home and grounded no matter what is happening around me. Archives Painting in my process i always used different layers and colorfield. while i was doing figurative painting, i was working always combining what I call my trinity: Colors, Patterns, and People. I was working as if was documenting an era. looking for images, old advertisement, graphic design from another era, patterns from memories, or a present wrapping paper, even someone wearing some random shirt in the bus. I created my own library (CPP). In each period, i observed changes, I listened to stories, I read articles, Talked with friends, exchange opinions with fellow artist. I realized that most of the time we don't really look at things/people anymore. Our generation became the biggest consumer and producers of images without understanding what they are looking. This became an irony that i wanted to paint, that i wanted us to remember. Learn more Twist and shout acrylic on canvas 80X130 cm// 31X51 '' 2019 Dress to impress acrylic, color pencils and felt pen on canvas 122X217cm// 48X85 '' 2018 the kids next door, witness of the wheaptaste project, 2018, 100X 100, acrylic on canvas The Love pattern, color pencils and acrylic on canvas 80X200 2018 The Vanilla girl, color pencils and acylic on canvas 60x 90 2018 Food Face Acrylic on canvas 91X120 2018 The Boudoir Moment Color pencils and acrylic on canvas 91 X 121 2018 Liberty Girls , Color pencils and acrylic on canvas 26X36cm//10X14'' 2018 Courtesy of private collection learn more about Liberty girls and discover the illustration collection Liberty girls the other woman learn more about The other women and discover the illustration collection. the other women Summer is over color pencils and acrylic on canvas 200 x 98 2018 And i love him color pencils and acrylic on canvas 70 X 90 2018 we were carefree color pencils and acrylic on canvas 127 X 90 2018 smoke'n'Roll color pencils and acrylic on canvas 142 x 105 2018 Working girl color pencils and acrylic on canvas 86 X 108 2018 Distraction color pencils and acrylic on canvas 220 X 220 2017 The cat Lady pigments and acrylic on canvas 150 X 190 2017 Vice Versa, love is a serious thing diptyque paintings that can be seen upside down pigments and acrylic on canvas 105 X 165 2017 Cheers to that pigments and acrylic on canvas 210 X 105 2016 quality time pigments and acrylic on canvas 100 X 100 2016 Discover available works, and Collect my work on Saatchi.
